Son of Birdman-10.JPG

Whistler has a rich history, with much to learn about how this community came to be. From it's early days to it's growth into a world-renowned destination, the stories of this land and it's people show an integral perspective on it's cultural heritage. The Whistler Museum provides a great opportunity to explore the area’s recent history, while the Squamish Lil'wat Cultural Centre offers a deeper understanding of the First Nations people who have lived here for thousands of years.

We are grateful to the Squamish and Lil'wat Nations for their ongoing devotion to this land and it's waters and we respectfully acknowledge that we are located on the traditional and unceded territories of the Skwxwú7mesh Nation and the Lil’wat Nation. Our thanks also go to Myrtle and Alex for their exploration of the forested mountains. Below are a few photos that highlight important moments in Whistler's history.

The photographs above were taken in the Squamish Lil'Wat Cultural Centre, as part of the Son of a Birdman spotlight project, by Jamie Fox. Thank you to the SLCC for collaborating and allowing us to display this beautiful snowboard amongst their work.
